I've just learned about this from a Mastodon post and think it might be nice to add it to this extension.

Reason for it:
Medium is a bad actor on the web. They offer a bad reading experience. Writing there benefits Medium more than the author. Counter to their promise of a wider reach, they offer worse SEO. They use extortionist business tactics. Finally, they want to centralize the currently decentralized world of blogging.

I fully second this!

hate to be that guy but i agree with everyone else on this, i still primarily use privacy-redirect but for medium i've gone ahead and used this extension and created my own rule(s) to redirect medium.com (among other domains) to scribe.rip.

i like the idea of having it all done by a single extension, especially since privacy-redirect supports self-hosted/decentralized solutions but for now this is working for me. really hope we can get this done; i feel like a prick for suggesting another project under the issues here but i also felt like it could be of some use as a temporary solution.

edit: i wanted to note that i figured most of us are here because we're against the bad actors but if contributors feel slighted by my suggesting a competing extension, i'll delete the comment lol

I don't think there is a competition here 😄 I think the maintainer is just too busy to get to it and it's great we have some alternative to use in the meantime.

@flbn thanks for suggesting Redirector, I guess I'll use it for now while the maintainer of this one is busy. Btw, does it have any disadvantages over Privacy Redirect?

For me, the disadvantage is that you have to add all rules by yourself, and there are dozens of medium sites with their own domain. You also cannot random pooling to balance weight between servers.

@Huy-Ngo you can just add a rule for https://*medium.com/*, because scribe.rip just needs the part that's after .com.

So something.medium.com/article-name will just be scribe.rip/article-name.

There are Medium sites with other domains, like towardsdatascience.com or other sites I listed in my PR.

New instance: https://scribe.citizen4.eu/

I'll add it when possible
