This is may be our last preview before Rise Media Player Alpha 1, so please please please submit as much feedback as you can!

This preview includes a taste of EVEN MORE of the features we are going to be including in the Alpha releases of Rise Media Player! We're so excited to show you them, and we hope you are excited too!

SIDE NOTE: We are looking for contributors to help maintain and work on Rise Media Player! Let us know on Discord if you're interested, or just submit a pull request. Images seen in this post are from in development builds of Alpha Preview 2. Features or UI may have been changed prior to release.

What’s new? (Big features)

Now Playing

  • There is now a button on the now playing bar to access your full music queue! See what's up next or what's available in the current album.
  • We now support multiline for song names on all now playing variants, so more of your songs' names can be seen on smaller window sizes.
  • Properties can now be accessed for the current song via any of the now playing bars or windows in the more (…) menu.
  • Added support for accent colours and dark and light themes. The play button now sports your accent colour and the tint of the now playing bar will adjust depending on your Windows mode, so it won't look too dark on light themes. Your accent colour will also show on the previous and forward buttons in now playing.
  • On larger Now Playing sizes, buttons for skip 30 seconds and move back 10 seconds are available, giving you more granual control over your media.

  • Also, we've added a right click flyout for the now playing bar, so when right clicking your album art, song name or artist name, a flyout will appear with a larger version of your album art; more space for song title and artist names, and buttons to access your current album and artist.

  • Brand new UI for the Now Playing mini player! We love it and can't wait for you to try it! Smoother animations, stronger WinUI influence and more features, like properties.

  • Oh and just one more thing, a brand new now playing page. This is a feature we've been meaning to add for a while. It is still in early stages so please submit your opinions, thoughts and feedback! You can access it using the all new full screen mode, or single click your album/video art and info.

Media Library

  • We've added the horizontal tiles option to the Albums page! See more albums at once and have more control over UI. See below.

- You can now open your songs in file explorer! Select 'Open file location' from the file tab in Song info, or right click your song and choose 'Open in File Explorer. - Album art is now shown on Playlist and Artist songs pages.
  • Even more work on indexing to make it more stable and reliable from @YourOrdinaryCat (A whole new backend is coming soon which will be much faster and incredibly stable).
  • Playlists are more functional and you can now edit the properties of your playlists, from the title and description to the icon.

Settings

  • All new UI! We've made Settings fill the entire window to make sure that we can fit all the new options we're planning to add without it feeling too cramped. The classic sidebar is back and each page now has subpages so you can sort through your settings easier than ever! Note: The old dialog can still be accessed from the more menu (...) in the new settings page. It is incredibly unstable at this point in time and we don't recommend using it.
  • We heard in feedback that people felt like the scanning page didn't fit the app, and we've listened. Now the scanning page is a part of the Media library settings area, and it has even more options!

  • New folders area. We've moved the folders area in settings to have it's own page, with the ability to show both your music and video folders at once, so you can manage easier.

QoL Improvements

  • The connected devices page has been removed. It will return in a later version.
  • The queue option on the sidebar has been removed. You can access the queue (and its old function - Now Playing) from the Now Playing Bar.
  • You now have the option to open RiseMP on startup!
  • Portuguese is now supported for Brazil (in some areas).
  • The insider wallpapers are now stored online, rather than in the app itself, so you won't be wasting disk space.
  • An option to 'Open folder location' has been added to lists for library folders
  • You can now add folders directly from almost every page, meaning you don't need to browse settings.
  • We can’t even count the number of bug fixes in this build. It is significantly smoother and more stable, with less crashes than ever! We encourage you to look for bugs and crashes, report them via feedback, and try and fix them yourself or we’ll look into them.

Known issues

  • The new settings UI does not currently have any SizeChanged events, meaning that the UI will not adapt to window sizes and you can't access settings on small window sizes. We recommend you keep settings on larger window sizes for now only.
  • Liked playlists may take an app restart to refresh.
  • Rearranging playlists very quickly can cause a crash. If you want to rearrange, do with care! :)

This preview includes a taste of some of the features we are going to be including in the full fat Alpha of Rise Media Player! We're so excited to show you them, and we hope you are excited too!

SIDE NOTE: We are looking for contributors to help maintain and work on Rise Media Player! Let us know on Discord if you're interested, or just submit a pull request.

What’s new? (Big features)

  • Major work on indexing. This took a long time and required a lot of strength from our developers. Hope the work was worth it!🤞
  • Playlists are finally here in some form. Add songs from right click context menus to a playlist and create playlists from the playlists page. You can also import playlists from M3U files. Video support and exporting playlists, as well as more in depth properties are coming in full fat Alpha.
  • LastFM & Deezer Integrations are here too! You can now view information about your favourite artists from their pages, and we will automatically grab artist images from the internet to make things look really fresh.
  • LastFM Accounts. Login with your last.fm account through the settings page or the accounts button in the title bar. Adding these accounts will enable auto scrobbling. When you play a song, it will be added to your recently played list in last.fm with way more features coming soon
  • Our refreshed feedback page includes fluent design, and more simple looking controls to select what you'd like to report on. Image support is also coming soon, so you can add screenshots with ease. This feedback still stores on GitHub Issues, so you will need a GitHub account. However, the feedback page itself is server side, meaning we can update it without the need of a RiseMP or RiseEQ update.
  • Media scanning options are here now too. You can entirely disable automatic scanning, or choose a time frame. We have also improved the way we scan so it should be faster and smoother.
  • Discography now works correctly on Artists.
  • WinUI 2.8 Preview. We are now working with WinUI version 2.8 so watch out for extra bugs. If you believe these may be WinUI related rather than RiseMP related, please let Microsoft know.
  • What's new. We are currently working on a page to replace the old 'What's new' interface in old RiseMP versions. Currently, this isn't live, but will be in the next few days. You won't need to update to get this working, don't worry.

Extra QoL changes

  • We now take you to the Albums page by default, as most users want to get straight to their music.
  • We've disabled the out of box experience for now, as it had issues. We are working on some improvements behind the scenes.
  • There is a connected devices page. It is not functional. Please don't take any notice of it.
  • We've fixed a song clipping issue on the now playing page.
  • Many context menus have been updated to allow you to play and shuffle from more places.
  • Video thumbnails now show on the now playing bar and on the titlebar of the playback page.
  • The default sidebar icon choice is now colourful.

Introducing RiseMP Pre Alpha 4!

What’s new? (Big features)

Albums – Open albums now show related albums at the bottom, meaning you can go from one album to the next.

Videos - They can now be sorted and there is a new now playing bar for this page too!
Playlists - Coming soon. Please let us know what features you'd like to see.

The about page no longer causes the app to crash.

Known issue - Playlists do not save.

Pre-release

Introducing RiseMP Pre Alpha 3!
This build has some notable features and enhancements over the last public preview build which was Pre-Alpha 2+.

What’s new? (Big features)

  • At a glance. The first thing you see, which has remained (roughly) the same since our first pre alpha (cue the applause now) has received a much-needed refresh. Your version and its relevant number is shown at a glance (pun intended) and you can see all of the big new features included in your build. Buttons have been made bigger for touch users and more description. We’ve also added a quick link to add your library folders for new users. Note: This page is still temporary and will be replaced with a recommendations page when we add support for playlists and internet APIs.
  • Video Support. We’ve finally added full fledged video to Rise Media Player. Watch videos from your device by adding them to your media sources from settings. We already look in the default videos folder. This support is basic for now and more features will be coming soon.
Albums – Open albums now show related albums at the bottom, meaning you can go from one album to the next.
  • Genre Support. The genre page now works, and you can browse your music by genre. This is very basic currently and we’ll be adding more features to it soon.
  • Settings. You can now add more colour to our app with a new feature we’re calling Window Glaze! Choose to match your system accent colour or select your own colour from our list. We’re bringing a colour picker in soon you can have exact control. This colour will ‘glaze’ or tint the app window, while still retaining the mica material. Note: This will work on Windows 10, but of course, no Mica. Also, you can make this match the album art of the currently playing song, meaning it’s always changing!
  • Sidebar. In the previous release, we added the option to remove entire sections from the sidebar. This is now possible from the right click context menu on the sidebar itself. Additionally, you can now move around items in your sidebar, moving them up and down, meaning stuff that is more important to you stays close. (Other sidebar features mentioned in ‘Smaller features’)
  • Now Playing. Introduction of hover actions. When your mouse leaves the now playing window, all controls and text will recede, leaving your album art to have it’s time to shine. Hovering will reveal your controls again.
  • Help Centre. Help & Tips is back in the form of the help centre! Access basic written help and support and there may even be a certain round friend popping their head in from time to time!

Smaller, but still important features, changes, and fixes 😊

  • Your music will no longer disappear when we are scanning for new media, and you can still browse as normal.
  • Albums can now be sorted by date added and release year.
  • Items have been moved around a little. Now Playing has been renamed to ‘Queue’ in preparation for a future update. Streaming services and devices have been removed from the sidebar, but they still will be coming as features, just in different forms, later. Local and Purchased has been renamed to ‘All Videos’ to keep it recognisable when the header is removed.
  • Feedback has been moved into a more (…) menu. Clicking this menu will give you the option to manually rescan for media at any time. Settings can also appear in this menu if you choose ‘Move to title bar’ on it’s right click menu. Description on search bar has changed from ‘Search music on this device’ to ‘Search all media on this device’. Search is still not functional.
  • ‘Show album’ is now shown on the right click context menu for the main songs list.
  • Songs and artists can now be deselected easily. The ‘Select’ option from the command bar has been removed but can still be accessed via the right click menu. Updated Colourful icons for ‘All Videos’ section.

Known issues (as of now)

  • When playing videos, it might also show on the main page and now playing but it will be smaller than expected.
  • Sometimes songs may get duplicated (#76, #70)
  • On the video playback page, the title should be changed to the current video file name (#67)

Pre-release

This is Pre Alpha 2+. Indexing, stability, menus and files (Bloom Channel Insider Build)

  • Complete OVERHAUL to indexing. We have rewritten indexing to improve stability and make room for future file types. Scanning for music now happens periodically, meaning you can always stay up to date. We also update your library when you add new songs in your files. Additionally, manual indexing is available when needed. Just right click the feedback icon in the titlebar. Note: The app no longer needs to be restarted. Furthermore, adding and removing folders will update your list.
  • Pick up where you left off! If you close or crash the app, on your next launch you will be taken to the same place
  • Right click context menus for albums and artists now have more options, including play for albums and songs, shuffle and show artist.
  • We've added file association to Rise Media Player, so now you can right click on a variety of media types and choose 'Open with Rise Media Player' to play with ease!
  • Updated animations when opening albums and artists to fit the style of the Microsoft Store and feel more consistent with Windows 11 UI.

Fixes

  • Settings will no longer resize itself when navigating between pages.
  • Settings menu bar buttons will now correctly resize with the main app window.
  • Adding and removing media sources no longer crashes the app.
  • Rating song files no longer crashes the app.
  • Navigating to the songs page on first launch no longer crashes the app.
  • Clicking away from teachingtips now works correctly.

Known Issues

  • Resizing the app when the main songs list is open can cause high ram usage.
  • 'Ghost' artists can appear when folders are removed. Clicking on these can crash the app. This can be fixed by manually rescanning.
