Open-Shell is a collection of utilities for modern versions of Windows. It restores many features from classic versions, along with adding extensive customizability.

Open-Shell includes three major components:

Open-Shell Menu

Open-Shell Menu is a Start menu replacement for modern versions of Windows. It includes three styles: Classic, Two columns, and Windows 7. Each style has a different layout that allows you to customize your Start menu as you wish.

Here are some of the features included in Open-Shell Menu:

  • Full customization of your preferred shortcuts and links
  • Cascading menus for folders and programs list
  • Keyboard navigation for programs
  • Customizable search parameters
  • Skinning for Taskbar and Start menu

Classic Explorer

Classic Explorer is an extension for Windows Explorer that restores features from classic Windows versions, including the toolbar and status bar. It also allows you to customize the appearance and behavior of different parts of the interface.

Here are some of the features included in Classic Explorer:

  • Classic toolbar with fully customizable commands
  • Status bar with file size and disk space
  • True folder path (no breadcrumbs)
  • Customizable navigation pane

Classic IE

Classic IE is a small plugin for Internet Explorer that restores features from previous versions.

Here are some of the features included in Classic IE:

  • Caption in title bar for displaying the full site name
  • Security zone and progress bar in status bar
