NOAA OWP ngen-forcings repository description

Welcome to the ngen-forcings repository. Currently this repository holds the source code developments for pre-processing NextGen lumped meteorological forcings into NextGen formatted forcing files as well as the NextGen Forcings Engine v1.0 Basic Model Interface (BMI), which is derived from the workflow data pipeline of the WRF-Hydro Forcings Engine. Each tool is in their own separate sub-directory within this repository (see left hand side bar), with further descriptions on the model setup and implementation of each Python tool.

Future expectations for repository

Development phases have taken place to also implement BMIs to advertise water level fields from oceanic/freshwater circulation datasets for coastal models. We intend on eventually merging these products into this repository as well to highlight data assimilation tools for the NextGen framework. Future initiatives may include other data assimilation tools into this repository, although it is not within the scope of the NextGen project as of now. This section here is just make the user aware of potential projects to be included on this repository besides meteorological forcings currently.

What to expect in this wiki

In this wiki you will find living documentation of the current tools used for NextGen to regrid meteorological forcing data products to force given model configurations. This includes guides and tutorials on how to use the NextGen lumped forcings driver pre-processing toolkit and execute the baseline NextGen Forcings Engine BMI as a model formulation setup within NextGen. Where appropriate, this wiki attempts to link to relevant external documentation and information.
