Ahab

A simple docker/boot2docker/docker-machine/podman helper script, to help with tedious docker tasks. Named after Captain Ahab.

Commands

  • sail: Start/Restart boot2docker/docker-machine/podman machine. This command needs to be followed by the machine name if you are using docker-machine.
  • trust <registry> Trust an insecure registry by adding a EXTRA_ARGS="--insecure-registry <registry>" line to the boot2docker profile in the boot2docker image. This command needs to be followed by the machine name if you are using docker-machine (you probably want to use the --engine-insecure-registry option when creating the machine, though).
  • follow <image_name> <other flags to be passed>: Search for container by image name and follow its logs, like docker logs -f <container>. If the container dies, follow searches for the container again. Hit CTRL-C to stop. (eg. ./ahab.sh follow elasticsearch -t). It blocks until there is at least one container running that image.
  • execute <image_name> <other flags to be passed>: Search for an image and launch a container (eg. ./ahab.sh execute elastic -p 9200:9200).
  • board <image_name> <other flags to be passed>: Start a shell inside a container (e.g. ./ahab.sh board elasticsearch).
  • kill <other flags to be passed>: Stop every running container (with docker stop) and remove them (with docker rm).
  • dispose <other flags to be passed>: Remove unused docker images (marked as <none>) with docker rmi.
