This repo currently contains color emoji fonts generated from the Openmoji, Twemoji, and EmojiTwo sets of emoji graphics.
These fonts are in the COLR/CPAL font format (specifically v0 of the format, which doesn't support gradients). COLRv0 fonts are significantly smaller than SVGinOT format color fonts, and are supported by practically all modern browsers.
To preview the fonts in use, take a look at the table on this page.
Take a look in the 'fonts' folder of this repo, or at the releases.
These files can be downloaded and installed, or they can be hosted on a web server and loaded via css. No special frameworks required.
On MacOS or Linux:
-
Clone this repo.
-
Navigate to the repo's folder in a command line.
-
Create a python virtual environment with
python3 -m venv colrvenv
, where 'colrvenv' can be substituted for whatever you want the path to the virtual environment to be. -
Activate the virtual environment with
source colrvenv/bin/activate
-
Install my fork of Google's nanoemoji tool into the virtual environment with
pip install git+https://github.com/Emoji-COLRv0/nanoemoji.git
-
Unzip the .zip file cooresponding to the font you want to build. Navigate into that folder. When you run
ls
, you should see a folder called "svg" and a file called "config.toml". -
Run nanoemoji with
nanoemoji --config 'config.toml' $(find svg -name '*.svg')
The script should then start running. It will take a while to complete. If successful, a build folder will be created, and the font file will be inside it.
