Welcome to the livesim2 wiki!

livesim2 is an initiative of the DASH Industry Forum to establish a new more flexible and performant emulated live DASH source for testing of live DASH streaming to clients and other system components.

The URL structure used is very close to dash-live-source-simulator (livesim1) livesim1, and most URLs should still work with livesim2.

Advantages of livesim2 compared to livesim1

A few of the advantages of livesim2 are:

  • Livesim2 requires much less resources and is much easier to set up for local deployment or online with HTTPS via Let's Encrypt support. Some short test content comes bundled with the source code, but there is also longer content available at livesim-content.

  • Livesim2 is also much less limited in what content it supports. The assets can now have a duration which is an integral number of milliseconds instead of seconds and the same is true for the average segment duration. This makes it possible to use 29.97fps video content and 25fps content with 1.92s segments.

  • No need for a special content preparation step.

  • Support for both SegmentTemplate with $Number$ and SegmentTimeline with $Time$ input VoD content

  • Automatically generated subtitles with timing information in either wvtt or stpp format

By whom

This project is organized by the Dash Industry Forum, a non-profit industry association established to catalyze the adoption of MPEG-DASH. The base of this service has been made developed and made available by Eyevinn Technology which is one of many members of DASH-IF.
