Community Forums Module

DNN Community Forums Module Logo

This is the official forums module for the DNN CMS Community. You'll find it in use on the Official DNN Website. The forums module has been built and continues to be maintained with the goal of providing the many contemporary tools a forum-based community might need.

This module was originally released as a commercial module many years ago, known as Active Forums. Years after, the Active Modules company was acquired by DNN Corp, and much of the Intellectual Property (IP) was integrated into the DNN Platform and Evoq solutions. However, extensions like this one were donated to the community as an open-source extension.

The Community Forums module enables you and your fellow community members to communicate in a productive, safe, and fun way on your community website based on DNN.

How to Install

There are no steps unique to this module to install it. You're able to install this module the same way you'd install any other module in DNN.

Gettting Started

When using this module, it's important to know that it can be set-up in numerous ways. To make your initial experience easier, there is a wizard that will pre-configure the module for you with the most common settings, as well as adding some starter modules for you to use (or not).

  1. There are 3 modules that you'll find installed. The primary one that you should be using is simply named Community Forums. The other two modules are companion modules that serve other complementary purposes.

  2. When you add the Community Forums module to the page, it will show you a welcome message. Click the Continue button to proceed.

  3. After just a moment, the page will reload and you'll be looking at the Control Panel for the module. You can either begin configuring things now, or choose Exit to go back to the main view.

You're technically already ready to use the module... Have fun!

Configuration Views

There is the Control Panel that you will hopefully find to be obvious. This is where you'll perform the majority of your configuration time. However, if you enter into Edit Mode, you'll also find a large number of other high-level configuration options in the module settings. Use the actions menu to go to the module settings, like you would for any other module.
