This is a bugfix release.

Changes

  • Comics whose title starts with a . or contains ~ are now supported. Fixes #88 and #89
  • Clearer error messages on the settings page when invalid values are input. Fixes #85

Thanks to @perrinaz and @mastressalita for reporting the issues.

Version 2.4.0

This is an important feature release.

Changes

  • The download location can now be changed in the options. #71
  • Drastically increased backup reliability. If pages fail to load, they are no longer immediately skipped but instead the extension will now automatically try to reopen them. This is especially useful for slow or flaky network connections.
  • Since Chrome 57 background tabs are throttled which caused backups to be slow or even fail. The extension now prevents background throttling for backup tabs.
  • Added option to change the text color of the favicon progress indicator of backup tabs. The black text was barely readable for users with dark Chrome themes.
  • Added support for download managers like Chrono. Take a look at the README page for details.
  • Initial exploit scans are no longer mandatory. Since the reader has not changed for quite a while now, it's no longer reasonable to force every new user to do a scan. If the reader should change, a new exploit scan can of course still be forced in the options.
  • The Update Server URL is now preset so that new users get notified about updates by default. This can of course be removed in the options.
  • Removed FS based temporary memory since Chrome's support for the LocalFileSystem API, which this feature relied upon, is quite buggy.

Thanks to @ReAnzu for implementing the download location feature.
Thanks to @AndrewD2 for contributing clean-ups and dependency updates.
Thanks to @sgbeal for testing.
And of course thanks to everybody who reported bugs and patiently waited for this long overdue release.

Version 2.3.3

This release does not contain any fixes or new features. Feel free to skip it.

Changes

  • Removed all hints of the comic platforms the extension can be used with for legal reasons.
  • Removed the bundled crx file because it cannot be installed on any OS in Chrome anyways. If you are using another browser that still supports installation of unsigned crx files you can still bundle it yourself.

Version 2.3.2

This is a minor bugfix and performance improvement release.

Changes

  • Fixes a bug that crashed the Comixology Reader in Chrome v50. #47
  • Notably improved backup speed while preserving the current reliability.

Thanks to @ilikecake123 for reporting the crash.

Version 2.3.1

This is a minor UI/UX release.

Changes

  • When changing settings, a "Changes saved." notification will appear. This is to avoid potential confusion about the lack of a "Save" button since all changes are autosaved. See #43.
  • The dialog asking the user to disable "prompt to continue" messages in the cmxlgy reader settings was removed, since those messages were removed by cmxlgy. See #42.

Thanks to @EricPonvelle for implementing the "Changes saved" notification feature!

Version 2.3.0

This is an important feature release.

Changes

  • Backups now contain comicbookinfo-metadata. Title, series, issue number and artists (grouped by ink, pencils, cover, colors, editing, writing) are stored. NOTE: Metadata will only be stored if you start your backup from „Row View“.
  • Further improved backup consistency. It should be far less likely to get backups with missing pages now. This improvement comes with a minor speed degradation for fixed format mangas (the first 3-4 pages will take a slightly longer backup time).
  • The DC Comic Store website is supported now as well.

Thanks a lot to @Cyberman-tM for implementing the metadata feature!

Version 2.2.0

Important compatibility release. CmXlgy changed their layout recently, which broke the extension. This update is necessary for every user.

Changes

  • Compatible with the new "My Books" page. The Scan button will be shown in all of the three new viewing modes.
  • Memory improvements.
  • Increased default page swap/skip delay times to 600/1200 ms.
  • Removed deprecated code and partially switched to ES6 syntax.
  • The extension now requires at least Chrome 39 instead of 31. This should not be a problem for most users.

Version 2.1.2

This is a minor feature release.

Changes

  • Adds support for the Marvel Comic Store

Thanks to @LoreleiAurora for implementing this feature.

Version 2.1.1

This is a bugfix release.

Changes

  • Fixes bug that caused backup to fail if comic name was an invalid filename. For example comics like Batman: R.I.P., that end with a dot.
  • Spaces are not replaced by _ anymore but kept in as they are, because every major FS and OS supports them. If you do not like spaces in file names, you can configure the replacement character in the options now.
  • Fixes a bug that would cause single file download tabs to stay open after a completed backup.
  • Fixes: Closing a loading reader tab manually would not cause the backup to fail in the
    "My Books" tab.
  • Minor code cleanups.

Thanks to @kesipyc and @sgbeal for bug reports and suggestions!

Version 2.1.0

This primarily is a feature release. The focus lies on supporting new comic formats, such as mangas and the Guided View Narrative mode found in some Marvel comics.

Changes

  • Added support for mangas.
  • Added support for Guided View Narrative Mode.
  • Added support for fixed format comics (currently only found at some mangas).
  • Added progress indicator to backup tabs (using their favicon). This makes it easier to detect backup tabs and get their status without looking at the „My Books“ page.
  • IMPORTANT: New latency compensation logic. Nice noticeable speed bump for overall backup speed and improved reliability (no halting, blank pages, skipped pages...). The new logic can now be manually configured via the options by setting the min. page swap interval and the page skip delay. What these options do exactly is described at the options page of the extension.
  • Added a confirmation dialog, that appears when the user attempts to close the "My Books" page, warning about all running backups being canceled.
  • UI improvements at the options page. Finally with real input fields...
  • The usual minor bug fixes and cleanups.

Thanks to @shinji257 and @Kataomoi for bug reports and beta tests!
