 Mitochondrial DNA instability is somewhat similar to nuclear DNA instability, but there are some differences as well. There are many mitochondria per cell, and their mtDNA have high replicative index. They have oxidative microenvironment due to their role inside cell, and they have no protective histones molecules on their DNA (probably due to bacterial origin).
