Breakout Session Ideas

Are you an expert on a topic that we're not covering in the morning sessions? Would you like a chance to share this expertise with others during our afternoon unconference times? Feel free to list your name and your topic here, as well as what time during the week you'd like to break out. There is nothing else scheduled during the afternoon hack times, so feel free!

  • Intro to Julia programming language. Could be a brief overview or a more in-depth tutorial on specific topic. (Eric Ford volunteers, but only for Tuesday afternoon. Anyone else want to volunteer for another day or a follow-up? Maybe Kyle Barbary?) Julia Your Idea Here. Your Name Here

  • Intro to profiling python. From a question during the intro session: "is it faster to do x*x or x**2?", answer: don't assume, profile! (John Parejko)

  • TOPCAT and STILTS let you load, explore, and visualize tables easily both through a GUI and on the command line. (Tina Peters)
