li6400-data-wrangling

the LI6400 portable photosynthesis meter exports data as a series of poorly formatted .xls files. If you've used "add remark" to indicate sample ID, these are shown as rows, not a separate column. This script extracts relevant data, and moves the sample ID information from remarks into a column.

In this example, I've recorded photosynthesis measurements from several plots, several plants within a plot and three leaves per plant. For each leaf, I recorded three measurements. Each time I switched leaves, I added a remark that indicated plot with a letter, plant ID with a number, and leaf with "a", "b", or "c". The output is in multiple files since I had to unplug the LI6400 and move it between plots.

The .R file is an old version where I attempted to make a generic portable script that would work for everyone. I abandoned that idea since not everyone uses the remarks on the LI6400 the same way. Instead I've provided sample data and worked through it in the .Rmd file.
