It fails here as well. First I thought it was some data corruption as it was common.

It happens also on Linux, it seems to be general issue.

Seems to be the same issue here on both Windows and macOS for what it's worth (no one else mentioned macOS so far so mainly wanted to add that). I didn't go digging in any logs but observed that YakYak just sits and won't connect anymore.

No it does not require installation. Yakyak is binary, meaning it merely needs downloading and unzipping. It can be run from anywhere in your file system. By definition that means no installation.

I guess. Not sure if it's terribly useful since it uses appdata for all its data.

No it doesn't work at all. There's only a blank rectangle where the converstion is supposed to be.

Not sure what you're responding to. But if it's about "it doesn't require installation", then that's false you just need to unpack the content manually, AKA installation. Also there's zero advantage to this since data is stored in the appdata, so it's not portable or anything. But you guys claimed it is some sort of advantage.

Try the following if you have not already:

Under Help ->Troubleshooting. click "Toggle External Links Guard." In the pop up that displays, click "Disable Guard" then close Chat and reopen it. See if they show up again.

Sometimes the External Links Guard messes up the authorization with Google. This could be why your chats aren't loading.

Who is "you guys?" I've certainly never said it's an advantage. Personally I really don't care where the data is stored as long as a program works. Yakyak no longer works at all so the whole discussion is moot as far as IT goes, but so what if the data is stored in appdata in any program? Many programs do the same even if they do use MS install protocols. Yakyak never did. You're implying there is some sort of disadvantage to where data is stored, but you aren't explaining exactly what this supposed disadvantage is. Why it's such a big deal to you is beyond me.

Well, you and the other person who started talking about YakYAk not needing to be installed, for some reason. Which is not even true.
Why you brought up that discussion again, I also don't know. :)

You're implying there is some sort of disadvantage to where data is stored, but you aren't explaining exactly what this supposed disadvantage is.

Well, if it would hold its data in the program folder (as a relative path) it would be portable, which would be an advantage. But it's not the case.

Okay. Portability might be a valid point if it weren’t for the fact that all the necessary data for Google Chat is already stored on Google servers (in the cloud) which already makes everything in Google Chat “portable.” When I switched from Yakyak to Google Chat Electron, I lost no data at all. So there is ZERO disadvantage to using a binary client for Google Chat as opposed to a client that utilizes MS Install.

If you must know, I did not see your last reply until just now when I received the reply from the person having issues with Electron, which was just a couple of days ago. Excuse me for not reading the date. Regardless. You keep insisting that anything placed on your computer is Installed, which is flat out not correct. But you go ahead and keep believing what you want, regardless of facts. That seems to be the world we live in now. And don’t worry, I won’t waste my time replying to you anymore. I’ve got better things to do than pull people’s heads out of the… AHEM! sand. And I won’t even mention who’s kidding who? Yes I will! that you don’t seem to realize YOU keep responding to ME with illogical retorts. Feel free to have the last rant. I’m disconnecting from this waste of time.

mzso commented Jun 3, 2023

@Riversiderepeat Well, you can pull your own at least. :) If you place files then the program is installed if an executable does it for you or not doesn't change anything. But you're right it's pointless to argue about this fact.

Well, those would be issues and I did say "with zero issues." So no, those features are still working for me. The only exception is that it doesn't trigger Window's Desktop notifications, but that's not much of an issue since I watch for the flag anyway. Notifications in general have so many flaws I just check everything regularly anyway and life is good.

If we must nitpick, they're only issues if you care abut them, and pay attention to them.
