Abandoned Project? #1411
Comments
I would like also to add a vote in the hopes someone takes up yakyak again to work with g-chat. I do use discord, but many older folks I know find discord too difficult to setup and use(yes even with how simple it is) Really hope someone can make yakyak work again. |
Please someone pick this up. |
I've found https://github.com/ankurk91/google-chat-electron is a decent replacement but not exactly as good as YakYak was. If you get a sign-in error, the fix is here: ankurk91/google-chat-electron#52 |
Unfortunately, that project is also now abandoned. It will no longer open on MacOS 12.6.1. |

Apologies for this issue, but I'm not sure what else to do.
I love Yakyak; it has a bunch of features that aren't available elsewhere and I rely on them. That said, I've seen a pile of bugs that have been un-addressed for a while. Images not showing up, for example -- that's a big one. I've looked at the file and PR history. The last PR has been open for nearly 2 months. Most of the code has been untouched for 3 months or longer.
So I have to ask: is this an abandoned project? I understand that Google has killed Hangouts in favor of Chat. I'm certainly not going to blame anyone here. But if there are no plans to move forward on yakyak than this might be the final straw before I move to Discord altogether.
What are the plans for Yakyak? Or should I start looking for alternative answers?
For those who contributed: thank you. My development background didn't really fit this project, but I appreciate you all.
