Just shows a blank 'message' regardless if sender or receiving picture. A bit ago (Same version, a week + ago or so) pictures sent would display but incoming images would not.

I've been running into the same issue.

I've been assuming it is part of Google working to move everyone to the new chat UI as they slowly kill off functionality

Well yes, maybe, but is anybody researching this or trying to see if anything can be done about it?
