New message icon won't clear for group chats

YakYak v1.5.11.1

The new message icon in the top bar and red dot on the chat do not disappear once I have read the new messages. The icon only clears if I reply to the chat. This only occurs in group chats, when I select an individual chat with a new message and toggle back to the group chats the notification icon disappears.

Bit more detail on this, seems to only happen when I receive a message on a group chat I was recently added to. Possibly something to do with prior messages from before I joined? The behaviour is consistent, and only occurs on this one chat (although a second chat wasn't clearing but that was with the problematic chat having an unread message too.

Sorry for late reply! I am unfortunately unable to reproduce this myself, so currently I'm not sure what's causing it. I'll do some more testing to see if I can hopefully fix this. Did you try the beta version? I think I did some potential fixes for it, but I can't really verify it actually works.

It doesn't always happen but it did happen once recently but not with a new group. Just upgraded to latest release 1.5.11.5 (fixing private token issues) I'll let you know if I have it happen again

I'm on 1.5.11.5, and I've been seeing this not just for group chats, but 1:1 chats too. Randomly it just won't mark the message/chat as read no matter what I do in yakyak (Short of replying). If I open it in gmail or on my phone's chat app, it gets marked as read in yakyak.

@araemo does replying mark it as read? I've found that replying always marks it as read for me when other things haven't

Yes, I edited to note that replying DOES mark it as read.

Can confirm this happens in group chats, very hard to clear the new message notification, just by clicking around a bit.

I have the same problem on 1.5.11.5, Ubuntu 18.04. For me, it happens for almost all group messages, and the only way I have found to mark it as read without replying is restarting YakYak. Specifically, if I quit YakYak completely and then reopen it, the following sequence occurs:

• It opens, without having fully loaded all resources it seems (e.g. profile images are not yet loaded). Still marked as unread.
• It loads the resources, but still the message is marked unread
• Finally it marks it as read.
