add Maven wrapper with specific version (3.6.0) to avoid installing Maven on your local computer and avoid switching between versions
configure encoding as UTF-8
upgrade dependencies and use AssertJ instead of Hamcrest

As time flew by, you might want to update to the latest versions of the dependencies. :-)
I'd love to see this merged!
