Q: Do I change my rights to use my own code if I contribute it under BSD?
A: No
Q: Who might contribute code as BSD to this BSD project?
A: Individuals who simply wish to contribute code without formal protections. Code contributed this way requires ARM to do an internal Third Party IP infringement (TPIP) review. Also, academic contributors who feel their bureaucracy for getting a CLA signed is too onerous but have the freedom to license their code under BSD.
Q: Why would I contribute via a Contributor License Agreement (CLA)?
A: Contributors who want to clarify the intellectual property license granted with Contributions from any person or entity. It is an industry standard agreement much like Google's Individual Contributor License Agreement. This license is for your protection as a Contributor as well as the protection of ARM; it does not change your rights to use your own Contributions for any other purpose.
