A new release is here with many bug fixes and improvements. To sustain and further our commitment to exceptional app development, we have transitioned to a subscription-based pricing model for the Pro version.

Improvements and bug fixes:

  • Resolved a conflict within the Kanban interface: previously, editing a task would not conclude if a separate task was concurrently edited
  • Addressed an issue where editing was mistakenly permitted within the editor while the Trash folder was active
  • Fixed bug where icons didn't show up on some Linux distributions
  • Corrected an inconsistency where icons were not displayed on certain Linux distributions
  • Resolved display issues of specific windows on Ubuntu 23.04
  • Addressed an issue with the Editor Settings window failing to appear on Qt 5.12.2
  • For Pro users, the 'Pro' label within the Editor Settings has been made redundant and is now removed for a cleaner interface

Notes is part of a larger project of mine to create an ecosystem of high-quality open-source and cross-platform apps. Soon, I will release more information about that.

Note for Linux users: You'll very soon be able to install Notes from FlatHub as well. Regarding the snap version of Notes, we are still working on it. The current version on Snapcraft is very old (version 0.9.0), so we recommend you either use the Qt 6 AppImage, the soon Flatpak package on FlatHub, compile Notes from source yourself, or wait till we support more packages.

A new release is here with major new features and many bug fixes and improvements.

New features:

  • Folders and tags. Organize your ideas hierarchically using nested folders and universally using tags.
  • Pinned notes. Pin your most important notes at the top of each folder.
  • Different themes. Switch between Light, Dark, and Sepia.
  • Editor settings window. Change between different fonts and change the size/width of your text.
  • Feed View. Select multiple notes to see them all one after another in the editor.
  • Option to change the database path, so you can more easily sync your notes with a cloud provider.

Improvements and bug fixes

  • Now support native macOS look and feel. The window frame is native and therefore supports snapping it to all sides of the screen. As well as the native shadowing by the os. "Control" + n now works to summon Notes from everywhere so you can instantly write down your thoughts.
  • A bug that used to cause the app to lag during a search is now fixed.
  • The TextEdit scrollBar is now in the right place.
  • Many other small improvements.

I have big dreams for Notes. See here. Be part of the discussion, or even better, decide to take on a long-term project to implement one of the new ideas.

Support the project

If you believe in the idea of creating the best note-taking app, fully open source and cross-platform, you can either help out by contributing code (most important), being part of the discussions, or by contributing money. You can contribute money to specific issues you want to be solved with Bountysource, or you can sponsor me so I can recruit developers for a faster release cycle, faster bug solving, and faster new feature implementations.

P.S. Regarding the binaries: Notes.dmg is codesigned but not notarized yet. Also, I had some problems generating more Linux binaries (I didn't figure yet how to migrate to the new Travis-CI). Any help would be appreciated.

We include binaries for linux (32bit & 64bit), mac, and windows (only 64bit at the moment because I haven't had access to 32bit machine).
We would be happy to support more platforms (openSUSE & Fedora - rpms), help us get there.

*About the mac binary - it is called "Notes Better.dmg" because macs already has a "Notes" app preinstalled so it won't let us install it if they are the same. Any suggestions on how to solve this?

*It would be great If someone has access to 32bit Windows machine and can package the app for it.
