Overview

High-performance Redis storage backend for the Riak Distributed Database.

Installation

Pre-requisites: You must build this using the same version of Erlang that was used to build Riak, or build it with the version of Erlang that is bundled with Riak.

$ git clone https://github.com/nathanaschbacher/riak_kv_redis_backend.git
$ cd riak_kv_redis_backend
$ ./rebar get-deps compile

This should automatically build the redis dependencies and move the redis-server binary and redis.conf file the priv/ directory.

Then you need to copy the riak_kv_redis_backend to the lib directory of your Riak install.

$ cd ..
$ cp -R ./riak_kv_redis_backend /path/to/riak/lib

Then create a symlink in the lib directory that points to the built hierdis dependency nested inside the riak_kv_redis_backend project.

$ cd /path/to/riak/lib
$ ln -s ./riak_kv_redis_backend/deps/hierdis ./hierdis

Usage

Edit app.config to set your storage backend to use riak_kv_redis_backend

And add a stanza for configuring hierdis

          %% Set the scheme with which data will be stored in Redis.
          %%    `kv`    Combines the `Bucket` and `Key` into <<"Bucket,Key">> and does GET/PUT/DELETE in Redis as
          %%            direct key/value GET/SET/DEL operations.

          %%    `hash`  Utilizes Redis' internal hash data structures.  
          %%            `Bucket` becomes the name of the hash, `Key` is the key, and uses HGET/HSET/HDEL operations.
          %%            This scheme can produce some improvements in performance and memory utilization, but comes at
          %%            the expense of a ~4 Billion key per bucket per vnode limit.
          %% Default is `kv`.
