Welcome to the Hauberk wiki!

Hauberk can be played at its github.io page: http://munificent.github.io/hauberk/.

There's a Getting Started document and a Quick Start document about key bindings for your reference. They're somewhat outdated however. E.G. Note that they do not use all the in game glyphs and that the key binding of e to equip a weapon or light source, s for selecting a skill, shift-s for seeing skills and spells, and shift-a for and viewing your equipment, resistances, monster lore and item lore are not otherwise covered.

There are six greyed out buttons at the bottom of the screen to mouse over onto. Clicking one will change the font glyph size to one of 8x8, 8x10, 9x12, 10x12, 16x16 and 16x20.

Character creation or selection

If it's the first time you're playing you'll have to create a character; otherwise you may create another or select a previous creation. Currently you may give your character a name, select a race, and a class. The keys for starting and interacting with this process are listed at the bottom of the screen, being tab, enter, escape, and the arrow keys (or the movement keys in the quick reference). Available races are:

  • Dwarf
  • Elf
  • Fae
  • Gnome
  • Human
  • Troll

This choice affects the range of the core abilities of strength, agility, fortitude, intellect, and will, which is shown to change during selection. The available classes are:

  • Adventurer
  • Warrior
  • Mage

Their roles have not been fully described.

Play

While the getting started document does describe the progress of play well enough, it is worth pointing out a few more things to take note of. At the hero screen, which shows a village of eight houses, note that the top left house has a set of stairs as its doorway. This is allows you to descend to a level for adventure. It is also the glyph you need to recognize to exit a level, which you'd do by pressing q while your @ is on top of the . You can kind of see all these glyphs in this png:

You can see doorways in the first line, item images in the fifth and sixth lines and the stairs in the middle of the bottom line.

Skills

W.I.P.

Weapons have different categories which match up to a skill you will train while using them. I'll defer to the code for now in: skills and weapons. The fact that there is no skill for the hammer class of weapons is an indication that this game is as yet, not finished.
