Status meeting 10.26.2020

  • TODO: see if we can make meeting open to everyone in graspologic teams
    • TODO: add alex to weekly meetings
  • scikit-network
    • need to tell them a specific day
    • time is early for MSR folks...
    • Nov 3rd - 5th
    • TODO pick one arbitrarily
  • managing PRs
    • should we make a list of PRs that need review from MSR/JHU/NDD people?
    • thoughts on axeing codeowners and replacing with leadership roles?
    • possibly make a project board
      • can have new PRs automatically get put into a project board
      • TODO make sure the above is true for PRs and not just issues
    • TODO look into the rule for MSR checking off everything
    • TODO spend more time codifying what we are actually looking for in PRs!

    • draft PR feature
      • doesn't trigger emails/notifications
      • TODO look into can we mandate this? like draft by default
      • if not then it is somewhat helpful but doesn't solve all problems
  • leadership roles (#553)
    • good idea if we give specific things to ask people
    • the "ask me about" idea is good
    • TODO everyone could write one sentence about what they do
      • everyone send to Dwayne
  • scheduling a meeting about steering
    • TODO pick a time to talk about leadership roles
    • PR review, organization
  • optional dependencies (#563)
    • Dwayne: more trouble than it's worth to do optional dependencies
    • initially this came up in a conversation about the graph stat book
    • will have more dependencies coming in (outside of the datasci stack), likely
    • scikit-network brought up their minimal dependencies
    • Jovo: potentially adds a layer of complexity... since some dependencies aren't commonly bundled
    • Dwayne: perhaps we remove dependency as opposed to make optional
    • Dwayne: pipeline somewhere or data science work. can be relatively dependency-bloated. that said, there is benefit to pushing stuff upstream.
    • Jovo: advocating for other people to do stuff, we don't have to do anything
  • next week
    • Bryan automatic layout stuff coming in
      • some old dependencies from topologic need to be axed
    • Ali has sparse ASE/LSE
