Posting this issue here, but it affects lots of BG tools. The installation process is much harder than it should be for those with M1/2 macs. While this isn't always "our" problem (e.g. sometimes the issue is with tensorflow), we should provide a solution.

Some ideas:

  • Compile cellfinder-core for apple silicon
  • Allow use of brainreg from conda (Add support for macOS brainreg#77)
  • Provide instructions or environment etc for using tensorflow compiled for M1

While tensorflow issues remain (e.g. brainglobe/cellfinder#267), I think this problem is mostly solved.
