This is a repository to track changes to current ergodox configuration. While I have used QMK, I’ve moved my entire configuration over to the ergodox-ez configurator.
This layout is made to work with my Emacs configuration. Much like that configuration, this will likely not suit your needs. Here are some of the changes that might be useful to you if you’re just getting started with your configuration:
- A keybinding is only useful if you can remember it. I have many repeated keybindings to keep things symmetric.
- Switching the symbols layer to a OSL was useful - I rarely want to use more than one symbol before going back to letters. The exception is the number pad, which I moved to a different layer.
- Having a Teensy reset button in software is really nice. I would highly recommend it so you don’t have to keep a paperclip around to press the physical button.
- The LH symbol layer is intuitive for me. The RH layer is really not.
- It’s not clear that the arrow keys are useful in their current placement. Same goes for the top middle Del and Bksp
