Testing Enabling EPR if vbus is disconnected on Pinecilv1

  1. just tested this on two V1 older pinecils (one with 24V mod to cut Vbus and one with No mod)
    appears to be some problems.
  2. I will focus on the V1 that had the "No Vbus" mod for many months and reported on older IronOS releases as "no vbus"
PCB has clearly has the mod cut trace and reports "no vbus" for firmware versions 2.20 only if i'm connected to PD20V charger.

  1. with stable 2.20 dec 13, 2022 (2.20.14DAF70)
  • I get correct "No vbus" plugged into 20V USB-c charger
  • displays in Debug menu as "PWR PD No Vbus"
  • displays in PD Debug menu as "State 12 No Vbus"

  1. Plugging into Apple or Kovol EPR (pd3.1 28V, 140w) charger I get strange results
  • using stable 2.20 firmware.
  • using PD60 cable, debug menu shows "PWR QC" oddly
  • PD Debug menu simply says "State 12 " at first, if I wait a ~10 seconds then it says "State 12 VBus" which I know to be incorrect.
  • switching to usb-c 240W cable is the same, at first it shows just "State 12 " but after a ~10 seconds changes to "State 12 VBus".

  1. then tried this new beta for EPR, and it will only allow 20V to V1 from the EPR chargers as it also shows PD Debug as "Vbus" message and not the "no vbus" (even though this V1 has the cut).

  2. I'm not sure what happened in stable 2.20 but that also seems to perhaps incorrectly report that this modified V1 has a "vbus" connection only if I'm connected to EPR charger, even if it's just with PD60 cable. but if 2.20 is connected to a 20V PD charger, then I see the correct "No Vbus.

  3. based on my reading of this BETA, it will only let me try 28V on pinecil V1 "if" it thinks I have "no vbus" so it's blocking it by reporting the Vbus state as if there is no modification.
