In our latest update, we've focused on ensuring all deployment targets are operational, alongside making subtle yet impactful improvements to the installation workflow to boost security, speed, and overall stability.

Highlight Reel:

-New NPM package: Even tho we don't target NPM for releases, we use the venerable @SocketDev for checking supply chain security. So this updated v7.1.2 release includes a new NPM push, plus a few other minor fixes too (including updating to the latest @roamhq wrtc (0.7.2) thanks @duvallj for his intrepid efforts on that project among many other competing concerns!), and a fix of import paths in chai's rebuild_hashes.js script, for efficient document sanitization.
-Docker Improvements: We've released significant improvements to the Docker experience, based on feedback. We focused on supporting multiple certificates without requiring an external certificate process: cert provision is now handled exclusively within the Docker run script: ./deploy-scripts/run_docker.sh. See the README for notes on the usage.

  • Empowerment for All Users: Now, even users without sudo privileges can smoothly operate browserbox by executing setup_bbpro, bbpro, and stop_bpro commands. Where these commands might have stumbled for non-sudo users before, they now proceed without a hitch. It's crucial, however, to make sure the necessary ports (a total of 5, centered around the port designated via --port in setup_bbpro) are pre-opened, as certain system setups may prevent opening OS ports via an internal firewall without sudo rights. After BrowserBox is set up by a user with sudo access, it's available for use by anyone on the machine.
  • Quicker Setup: We've dramatically reduced the time it takes to install the full BrowserBox suite, including the document viewer, by streamlining the installation of the secure document viewer. This adjustment means you can get up and running with BrowserBox much faster than before, though to utilize the secure document viewer for safe remote viewing of various file types, you might need to wait a bit for its installation to complete. Should you need to view a document securely, simply attempt to open it again after about 30 minutes from the initial app launch, which allows the document conversion process to catch up, ensuring the document is viewable through the fully installed secure viewer.

Moreover, this version brings numerous minor fixes aimed at enhancing the stability and performance of BrowserBox across a wide array of OS environments.
