BASLQC Trustworthy Computing is an initiative to procure, produce, and sell completely free/libre open-source hardware, at a decent price. We recycle existing devices before they drop into the trash heap, and reprogram top-down from BIOS to OS to run FLOSS software.

Currently, our primary products are Libreboot/Coreboot laptops, but through research we create many more FLOSS hardware products.

vs Gluglug

Our major competitor in this field are the people who built it all: Gluglug. However, we aren't competing directly, since made this effort to solve certain issues:

  • In the UK, ThinkPad parts are more difficult and expensive to procure. As a result, Gluglug prices for their ThinkPads are significantly marked up, much more than anyone would want to pay for an old computer. Not to mention the cost of international shipping. In the US, we can obtain parts for dirt cheap, so we pass the savings on to the customer. Many thanks to Lion Surplus for providing the parts!
  • Gluglug T60s ship with the aging 32-bit Core Duo CPU. We replace all our models with 64-bit Core 2 Duo CPUs, significantly increasing their usefulness and longevity.
  • All of our ThinkPads are wrapped in beautiful 3M Carbon Vinyl, which turns old scratched surfaces into brand-new beauties.
  • We will comply with all GPL requirements, contribute upstream to Libreboot, and stay true to the ideals of FLOSS as much as possible.
