Zulip spams dialog boxes when connecting to airport wifi #1345

Describe the bug

When connecting to airport wifi where you need to pass a login page before you can access the web, zulip will spam dialog boxes saying that it failed to connect to each zulip instance due to an SSL certificate error.

It will open one dialog box for each zulip instance you have joined. If you close them, then they will reappear a few seconds later.

To Reproduce

  1. Have the zulip desktop client open and logged in to several zulip instances.
  2. Connect to airport wifi with a login portal.
  3. See lots of dialog boxes.

Expected behavior

I expected that it would show a dialog box once, and then not retry until prompted by the user. Or maybe it would not show the dialog box on subsequent failures. The current behavior prevents the user from interacting with the web page to pass the login page, since the dialog boxes steal focus from the browser and reappear too quickly.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • Operating System: Arch Linux
  • Zulip Desktop Version: 5.10.0-1
