Hi! I am April Koh, a rising senior at Yale College. I belong to Timothy Dwight College, and I study English and Sociology (with a concentration in Film Studies). I grew up in Texas and New Jersey and went to high school in New York. After seriously considering becoming a professional oboist at Juilliard Pre-College, I completely abandoned that dream and came to Yale without a clue about what I wanted to do with my life. I ended up singing a cappella with Living Water, directing the Yale Logos, writing for the Yale Herald, OUT OF ORDER Magazine, and now I am currently EiC of Yale Habitus, an undergraduate journal of the social sciences (we are accepting submissions!). Next year I will be singing with Whim n Rhythm and applying to grad school for sociology! I am especially interested in gender inequality in S. Korea, and I hope to one day help empower Korean women by contributing to Korean public policy. I also hope to one day make movies that will inspire and mobilize minorities in American public schools.

In my free time I like to write screenplays, watch films, write songs, record covers, and think casually about sociology. I love coffee, eggs, cottage cheese, and kimchi. Yon Jin (not April) is my legal name. My town's name is Ho-Ho-Kus, the only town in America with two hyphens. I love big angry classical music like Tchaikovsky, owls, poetry, mornings, incense, silent films, candles, and new notebooks. I have one older sister (who is studying violin at the School of Music) and two very loving parents!

I can't believe that I have only one year left of Yale! Yale is paradise. I am dreading the day I have to leave.
