Editors can also serve as a collection of notes. Various software similar to Zettlr are mentioned in this HN thread. I personally use Vimwiki plugin for Vim.

https://github.com/hackjutsu/Lepton is a very nice tool to manage knowledge with GH snippets.

Have you heard of https://logseq.com/ A really active project with interesting features (query language etc.).

Logseq looks good - very similar to Dendron at a first glance, but a stand-alone app.

My only concern is how portable the document formats are if all these apps are discontinued in the future. Sure they are markdown files, but the special markup they use for linking notes needs some attention. All of them are Electron based applications - not good news for long term preservation.

I completely understand your point. Some features like internal links [[like this one]] for example, seem pretty straightforward to me and don't break most parsers. But when it comes to the different query languages, it gets confusing quickly. Let's put a pin in this.

I will run a poll in Mastodon to get a pulse of what academics use these days.

I think I will add:

  • Logseq
  • Dendron
  • Zettlr
  • Vimwiki
