187
times 1 187 is working as intended

188
times 1 188 not so much...

When selecting the output, copying and pasting somewhere else, the z is there.

This bug was seen on Firefox 59 (Arch) as well as Firefox 52.7.2 (Debian). Can anyone reproduce this on Windows?

Firefox has a maximum number of nested DOM elements before is silently stops rendering them. See this bug (or anything that pops up if you google "TAGLVL"). The only way to avoid this is to avoid creating as many nested elements, or merging "text-only" spans before adding them to the DOM.
