Training #1 - Team meeting #1 checklist

Process Norms

  • Roles: data scientist, project lead, 5

  • Responsibility: notes in Google, task list in Github, decide, watch timekeeping delegation and reminders, watch inclusive behavior, rapid feedback collection after team meetings.

  • Agreements: timekeeper norms of taking turns and build How To meeting guide. Structural checkpoints are mega clear using A, B, C technology or Apps. Within the team, there is flexible options with flexible guide to useful process and landmarks.

  • Pitch by everyone: 60 seconds; 1 slide; predetermined order or process to hand off

  • Brainstorming: 15 min total; short term possible outcome (5 min make task list of options), long term design options (5 min). 5 min prioritize and integrate + define parallel processes.

  • Breaks: when?

  • Online technology: Team Github repository in Waterhackweek

  • Each person define their next tasks -- ? Breakout room? Individual work? one person go to the Binder office hours and 3 people work on Github and 3 people work on Landlab example?

Task List:

  • Product Update README.md #1 - Readme template in Github for importing to HydroShare resources

  • Product Making a draft list #2 - Tutorial.md on how to setup launching HS in Binder in Waterhackweek Learning Resources

  • Landlab example of how to launch a Notebook as an App

  • HIS example - look at HIS air temperature for Seattle in a Leaflet map

  • Next example - build a tutorial to do something with COVID19 data on Notebook as an App

  • NWM example -run Tian's NWM Notebook for Seattle + HIS - 1) plot time series comparison for the COVID19 time span 2) spatial interpolation of points and compare NWM, 3) use as input to a simple Landlab model

Resources: Documentation on how to launch a Notebook in the Cloud: a) a JupyterHub server, b) Binder, c) as a Web App. To test as a team: how to get this to work for your Notebook.

Participant expectations: A juptyer Notebook on Github or HydroShare.
For example: Run a Landlab Landslide model journal publication stored on HydroShare in the Cloud. Team 1 Active Learning: Try to run updated versions of a Landlab v2 Landslide model in the Cloud. Team 2 Active Dev: Try to run your Notebook.

Set up a team process to work on COVID-19 data and models in the Cloud.

Notes from 6/19 meeting:
launch fdc3a06e6ad842abacfa5b896df73a76 with mybinder.org
don't edit hydorshare at the same time
don't edit github at the same time
google docs, everyone has it open
screen real estate is important to consider (others might have less than you)

qiqochat might be a good central place?
discussion around jupyterhub and binderhub deploys
waterhackweek jupyterhub vs cuahsi jupyterhub
Decided on using cuahsi jupyterhub, but keep waterhackweek jupyterhub in back pocket.

Start with the endpoint (share published resource that launches into mybinder)

Github vs Hydroshare real time collaboration tool. Github better for real time collaboration. HydroShare is for sharing data that is not online as well as publishing.
