The Localization section is TBD, but the following I suggest a specific description.

As described above for the content to be included in the metadata of the Accessibility Summary metadata, the language to be used in the Accessibility Summary must be the same language as the text, since the users of the book are likely to see the content of the metadata as is.

Metadata related to localization includes the following:

  • Whether Ruby is displayed or not, and whether or not it can be toggled Ruby display.
  • Vertical/horizontal formatting and whether or not it can be toggled.
  • Word spacing: whether the words are spaced or not, and whether the spacing can be be toggled or not.

As for Ruby, there are readers with dyslexia who misread when Ruby is assigned to the text, and conversely, there are also readers with developmental disabilities who cannot fully understand the content without Ruby.

There are also readers who have difficulty reading vertical text but can read horizontal text easily, or conversely, readers who can read vertical text easily but have difficulty reading horizontal text.

As for the word spacing, there are readers who can easily understand the text when there is spacing, and conversely, there are readers who have difficulty understanding the text when there is spacing.

Thus, readers need to be able to select the titles that are most appropriate for their disability characteristics, as the support they need will vary depending on the characteristics of their disability. Therefore, for books in languages with these characteristics, metadata about these Localizations must be set appropriately.
