Some concerns have been raised about BSD portability. Some part (e.g. realtime signals) must be worked around are made optional, in order to support these systems.

All,
I've just manage to change the code a bit to support BSD signals (with kqueue) and adapted some scripts as well. I am testing it on my machine and so far so good. You can have a look at my fork and let me know if the changes seem reasonable.

It should also fix #218

Realtime signals are supported by FreeBSD, more in #448
