Describe the bug

I am seeing this on macOS but I suspect its repeatable anywhere.

  1. Open any database and put up any plot but be sure annotations are set to include the username annotation.
  2. Bring up annotations and just keep hitting the apply button and observe the user annotation in the viewer window
  3. On macOS it appears to toggle between two states involving different width or spacing between characters. Could be the font itself is somehow changing but I don't think so.

This happens only for the non-fixed-width font choices. So, there is some kind of feedback mechanism that is causing the setting to oscillate slightly between two different width states.
