Idea to do some limited DEC over the summer instead of the usual summer break and then resume regular schedule in September :)

  • Data Week is first week of June and Huw is already planning to do a DEC there. Usual format of, invite lots of people do regular DEC but the prompt material is a video of some kind (or maybe have like a guest speaker like Maddie or Catherine?)

  • Might look to organise an in person social during data week

  • Idea to do one event in July and another in August to replace regular fortnightly DEC. Have events be at different times (one morning, one later afternoon) to accommodate folks from different time zones.

  • @vairylein wants to do DEED in July, need to decide in person vs online, time/date etc.

  • Does anyone in the mailing list have a slot in August who wants to run something?

Links/suggestions:

  • a hackathon day for our team on solving Open Data challenges related to DEC
  • hackathon on AI utopias could be an idea
  • Vanessa working on that tutorial format on the Data Ethics Emergency Drill from my phD research that I could do in one of the sessions. It won’t be an entirely positive type of session, but definitely interactive.
  • activity where you match the impact statement to NeurIps articles and discuss if they are any good
