Before I say anything, I think pixz is pretty amazing.

Two small issues I have found:

  1. If I try and compress a file of 0 bytes (if it just happens to be in the directory), it creates a .xz file,
    though cannot delete the original, I get the following error (OS X):

Unrecognized archive format
Error reading archive entry

  1. If I try and compress a file already compressed with pixz, rather than skipping the already
    compressed files, it generated .xz.xz files

  1. I'll look into this.
  2. I think that's the right behaviour? What are you trying to accomplish by asking pixz to compress files that are already compressed?
