Seems that if you "download_directory" and try to specify the current directory via ".", all hell breaks loose. That might be a misunderstanding of the functionality of webdav, but perhaps this would be worth catching ...
assert (local_path) and (current_working directory) are not the same path.

Expected behaviour - download that directory INTO this directory not replacing this directory. This might require a shift in the interpretation of the API for python webdav
