100%. I've often wondered how it is that often it's hard to differentiate the 2nd, 3rd, and sometimes other extra alternatives that are being shown.

I've often seen it suggested for web accessibility to not rely on color as the only way to convey info. A possible improvement could be that when you hover over a legend item, that item changes (e.g. a border around it) and the chart updates such that the selected item is highlighted as well (in a way that's apparent without relying on color). Below, the mockup shows a black border around both the legend item and the chart area.
This could also be a benefit to non-color-blind people, like in the example below where many of the less popular items are shown so close together they may obscure each other; imagine not needing to see the line because you would see the dot point highlighted.
It's impossible for me to tell the difference between that choice of red and green.
