Xcode 15 Support

Xcode 15 beta has been released 🎉

We can list some of items that may be relevant to Tuist:

• Any Xcodeproj format changes that warrant support in https://github.com/tuist/XcodeProj
• Any fixes needed to support generating Xcode 15 compatible projects
• Any Xcode 15 features Tuist can support or leverage

Feel free to comment if you spot anything relevant and we'll consolidate / group things.

visionOS / realityOS / xrOS

A new platform / destination is coming to an Xcode near you :D and will require support in both XcodeProj and Tuist.

It's probably best to support #5132 to get multiple Destinations 🎉

Looks like there will be at least 2 new destinations similar to Catalyst:

• Designed for iPad
• Designed for xrOS (or whatever the final name will be)

Mergeable Libraries

The build system now has a mechanism to merge libraries, from the documentation it seems this is intended to allow having multiple dynamic frameworks during development however get them all statically linked for release build to optimise launch times.

Tuist has supported this to some degree by using generation time configuration to swap product types.

Would be interesting to find out more about how this works in practice:

• Would asset handling work correctly? (e.g. Tuist had to manage a separate resource bundle, accessors for it, etc...)
• How does it impact the the linking rules already built into Tuist? (e.g. linking dynamic vs static products)
• Should Tuist support it or perhaps offer a way to allow users to adopt it without necessarily managing it? (to avoid even more complex link rules / logic)

I think that will be nice way for using SwiftUI Preview.
As you know SwiftUI preview needs dynamic library targets to run independently.
but dylib speeds down to launch apps. so far using SwiftPM to struct projects is the better way in using SwiftUI Preview.
SwiftPM controls how build modules for the environment like for Preview or for normal building.
I'm excited about mergeable libraries to get tuist much better.

Swift / Objc Asset Symbols

Looks like asset catalog assets now get some form of codegen natively in Xcode (similar to what SwiftGen does).

• Could this be used instead of the bundled SwiftGen?

String Catalogs

For localization, there's a new Strings Catalog file type (.xcstrings).

• This is likely a new package type that Tuist would need to be updated to recognize
• Need to find out more how Xcode integrates this to see if any other tweaks are needed to support it

Xcode Bookmarks

Xcode will allow adding bookmarks to code or searches (queries).

Appears this is part of xcuserdata

App.xcworkspace/xcuserdata/<user>.xcuserdatad/Bookmarks/bookmarks.plist

As long as Tuist and XcodeProj don't accidentally wipe xcuserdatad as part of generation, this should work without any additional changes. From experimenting, this doesn't seem to be sharable (e.g. if I were to move the Bookmarks folder to App.xcworkspace/xcshareddata).

Swift Macros - Compiler Plugins

Swift Macros are integrated into Xcode using Swift Package Manager, similar to how build and command plugins from Xcode 14 work.

• Does the existing .package() dependency work for this?
• Any revisions needed to how Dependencies.swift work? any potential conflicts?

SPM plugins are not supported as of now, there should be an issues somewhere.
And probably it shouldn't go through Dependencies.swift
