While Trixi allows to simulate fluid-structure interaction, I did not found a way to simulate a moving object in a flow, e.g. a ship in the ocean or a turbine in the wind.

Please, add this feature!

As Petr Krysl said on Discourse, this is a really non- trivial feature. If you want to implement this yourself, we're happy to answer questions about Trixi.jl.

@ranocha Do you think Trixi would be a good starting point for such a feature? Lets assume I get funding for a PhD student, would it be a valuable task to add this to Trixi?

At the moment there exist no immediate plans by the principal developers of Trixi.jl to develop such a feature. That means that if you plan to add this capability, it wouldn't interfere with any ongoing projects. Moreover, I think it would be extremely nice to have this feature in Trixi.jl!

There are a few people the Trixi.jl core development team who have some experience with moving objects, and personally I'd be very interested in having such a capability in the code. Having said that, please note that we cannot provide substantial structured support in the form of serious developer time without any own funding. What we can offer is to try to answer specific questions either here or on Slack, and it's certainly possible to meet via Zoom to discuss some broader topics (e.g., implementation strategies etc.) once in a while.

Lets assume I get funding for a PhD student

If you're planning to get 3rd party funding, we can also arrange a meeting to discuss more in detail how such a project could be aligned with existing projects. If it were possible for one of us to become officially part of the project and receive some funding as well, it would also make it much easier for us to commit personal and/or development time. If this might of interest to you, feel free to reach out to me at any time.
