The irrigation sketch was built with multi-channel relay modules in mind. I only ever used it using a single-channel relay module, however. The coil pin is the signal pin. I'll update the info on it once I re-visit bidirectional communication.

As "time" is going up every 10 seconds (as i put sleepFDRS(10)), can i have some problem if i use it for a long time?

Question 2: I'd like to connect a sensor to count the consuption of litres of water, in the same esp32 or to onother one if it's not possibile in the same esp32 controller (a sensor like this one

That sensor looks like it requires minimum of 5VDC for power and the signal is a pulse at 5VDC which I believe the ESP32 only supports 3.3VDC on the inputs. Additionally, the value per pulse doesn't seem like it is very straightforward. Make sure the input voltage from the device is supported by the micro controller and you will probably want to attach the pulse input to an interrupt. I haven't looked at the examples to see if there is one already available.

I actually sort of forgot you could only send from one ID at the sensor, thus what I said doesn't really work. You made the best of my confusing instructions, though!

I just now added the ability to tell the loadFDRS() function what reading ID you want to send as as a third parameter. I also added a checkCoils() function in Irrigation.ino which uses this new ability to send the status of each coil pin after any data is received.

Try it out and let me know if it is what you're looking for!

It's because the logic of the 4-channel relay is inverted. We set the GPIO to LOW when we want to power up a relay coil, and HIGH to turn it off. Other relay modules do not invert, it depends on the circuitry. At some point I will probably add an option to invert or not-invert.

The gateway seems to work properly with lora.

Sorry, It's in the docs but not emphasized enough that LoRa controller functionality isn't implemented yet. I was delaying it while I learned more about LoRa, but I think I'll add it somewhat soon. As you noted, you can still send controller messages via LoRa gateways, but the final hop must use ESP-NOW. This is still how I'll recommend setting up the system after I add LoRa controllers too, because ESP-NOW is quicker and requires less airtime.

As you see, LOra is inizialized, same channel and band, the espnow 0x03 is correctly registred but the lora packet didn't arrived and so the esponow packet isn't send.
Where's my error?

I think it's simply that you haven't enabled the buffer. Uncommenting //#define LORA1_DELAY 500 on 0x01 should fix that.

Sorry... This buffer setup wasn't great, and I've eliminated it in the latest version. Going forward, there will be sendLoRaNbr(1) instead of bufferLoRa(1). The default interval is 10 seconds and can (optionally) be changed with #define LORA_INTERVAL xx.

now it sends the packet and 0x02 recive the packet and send it via serial and to espnow peer, but...

For clarification: 0x03 is another repeater set up similar to 0x02, right?
The output of 0x02 indicates that everything sends, and then it receives its first peer registration request (from the controller, presumably) about 8 seconds later. From what I see, the controller wasn't registered when the packet was re-transmitted to peers. If the controller reset after receiving a packet, that could indicate a problem. Not sure if that's the case here or not.

I'd encourage you to check out the "release_01_2023" branch of the repo and try it there. It's possible you'll have similar problems, but at least we can rule out some LoRa issues that I have recently fixed. I will be getting back to work on FDRS soon I hope. I have enough LoRa modules to try your scenario for myself, and I'll make it a priority to test it with a second repeater. There is not much documentation of the new functions yet, but most of the new stuff you'll need was covered in my last comment.

I'm mostly curious about the circuit/wiring that is connecting the LoRa module to the ESP. Are they separate modules that you're connecting or a pre-made board?
I have an individual radio module somewhere that I can use to try to test custom SPI pins. Let me know as much about your circuit as possible so I can recreate it.

Alright, I will study the issue today and let you know what I come up with. The last thing worth mentioning for now:
The new version uses the LoRa chip's DIO0 interrupt more, so make sure DIO0 on the LoRa board is connected to ESP GPIO26.

Aye! Glad you got that part working!
I am currently 90% of the way finished adding support for LoRa controllers. I will hopefully have a working example built in the next 24 hours or so.

The answer to your second question may help solve the first:

You're familiar with LORAG_ACT , which defines what the gateway does with data when it arrives via LoRa. But LORAG_ACT actually only applies to data that did not come from a neighbor. If the data was sent by LORA_NEIGHBOR_1, the gateway will do the thing defined by LORA1_ACT .

This functionality lets you set up chains of neighbors that all simply hand their data off to the next neighbor (repeaters).

So in your second config, first of all make this change: #define LORA1_ACT broadcastLoRa(); #define LORA1_ACT sendSerial();

This means, in words: "If a packet arrives from LoRa neighbor 1, send it to the serial port."

I hope this fixes it. If it doesn't work, do me a favor and start a new discussion thread about it. This one's just getting a bit long and off the original topic.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there some documentation on this somewhere that i've missed? I'd like to use this to control a relay via MQTT, but i'm not sure how to structure the incoming mqtt message to instruct FDRS to do something. Please and thanks

Yes I'm using 101, which is currently just assigned to the pin that the onboard LED is attached to. With ESP-NOW I was able to turn the LED on and off, and also request the status of the 4 pins. When I was testing I literally copied your json examples from above. I am using these v3 modules

Ope! I think I may have solved it. I got deep into troubleshooting, then realized that the coil pin definitions may be interfering with LoRa pin definitions.

On my end it has fixed that issue, but also brought forward a separate issue with packet acknowledgments.

Please replace the coil pin definitions with these, and tell me how things go:

Hi timm, How are you? I finally make the irrigation system (soon i Will make an article in my blog). I have a questione for a strange behaviour. In the final nodes esp+l'ora and ESP+espnow+relay: the 2 ESP have separate Power supply with the buck 220 volt ti 5 volts. When i send the lora message After the First One the system crash. If i use the USB there Is no problem. Do you have some idea how ti debug It and some solutions as i would likes to do not use 2 USB charger? @lamasseriadipolverara, it's pretty common for ESP to experience a brownout during transmits and initial power on. To get around this you can either disable brownout detection or add a capacitor between +3.3 and ground pins. I don't have links at the moment but you can do a search for ESP32 and power capacitor or ESP32 brownout disable and probably find some good resources.

I put a capacitor electronic capacitor 470uF/16volt between the power supply (5 volts) and esp... something better but continue crash sometimes. I'm going to put another capacitor and see if it's better.

If it doesn' go betetr i'm tryng to put an other capacitor this time ceramic one (100nF 50 V) and an LDO 5Volts AMS 1117-5.0 1A as i read in an article. It's the correct step or i'm going to make something really dangerous?
