This repository contains a staggering number of locales, considering the number of locales actually shipping in Thunderbird.

My suggestion would be to keep only:

  • Locales that are shipping in Thunderbird.
  • Locales that at this point are above a certain threshold.

And reflect this change in Pontoon's settings.

The list of locale shipping in Thunderbird should be probably reviewed as well, and that's part of the work of someone in charge of TB l10n as a whole ;-)

Note that Esperanto explicitly asked to be removed at some point, the other are pretty much unmaintained.

This repository contains a staggering number of locales, considering the number of locales actually shipping in Thunderbird.

My suggestion would be to keep only:

* Locales that are [shipping](https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/comm-beta/file/tip/mail/locales/all-locales) in Thunderbird.
* Locales that at this point are above a certain threshold.

And reflect this change in Pontoon's settings.

This repository was created from an old bedrock list, and yeah, I haven't been pruning locales we're not shipping or anything. To some extent, that's because I don't have access to change Pontoon settings and having to ask someone to change adds too much friction.

If a locale has good completion but we're not currently shipping it, I think it's OK to keep since we may ship it in the future and it gives a head start.

This all seems like something that could/should be scripted.

Does Pontoon have an API for modifying project languages? Can I get access to be able to modify project settings directly?

Does Pontoon have an API for modifying project languages?

No.

Can I get access to be able to modify project settings directly?

Ping me next week on Slack with your account on Pontoon, and we can sync about how to do that.
