I very much like the function of exporting all messages from a folder to a directory, including the attachments and images.
It would be even nicer, if there not only was the possibility to have a (standard or custom) date in the FILENAME, but to also have the addon set the filedates of the exported files to either the messages' dates or to the custom date. That way, the messsages and their associated images and attachment folders could be listed alongside each other by sorting them by date.

Thanks for the post.
So currently there is actually part of your method in place. On the Misc tab in options there is the Add date to filename option (bad name and location...)
This will set the exported file's creation time to the email date. This is not, however, done when saving the corresponding attachments. Unfortunately this thwarts your plan.
I will mark this as an enhancement and see what it would take. @cleidigh
