I have image previews open by default on my configuration so this is a common annoyance for me.
When there are image previews present and opened, and i try to scroll back so the "SHOW OLDER MESSAGES" button automatically activates, the scrollbar jumps from it's previous position up a little. It jumps more if there's more image previews open, to the point where it just jumps to the very top.
Closing the image previews immediately fixes this. I suspect the image previews simply aren't taken into account when the new scrollbar position is calculated when loading new scrollback.
This might apply to link and video previews as well. I'm unsure.
