Notes from November:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1x-fF2gdsuQXl2S26e91tBoPA5XE-lqPVzYyxgf8hNrQ/edit#

Notes from spring:
Might need to make a sitemap for apps.texastribune.org/sitemap.xml pages and maybe salaries.texastribune.org to ensure Google indexes them properly.

Similar to:
https://www.texastribune.org/sitemap-articles.xml

  • Nobody knows what they do- a skeleton of your website for google to understand and find your pages. Google crawls- and takes a signal of the sitemap.
  • We don’t know how important it is to Google.
  • Ryan thought Google didn’t care about them, so we never did one for salaries and it still has great search juice.
  • Salaries > can do one there
  • Schools > look into doing one there
  • Apps > need to make a list of priorities for Mandi
  • when publish an apps project, might need to update the sitemap
  • No robots.set text for apps- more important that sitemaps. Could just do that in S3. Best practices https://www.texastribune.org/robots.txt- could make one that points to our sitemap on www.
