We tried using the Spyder IDE that is installed with Anaconda. Its very similar to layout to RStudio and was mostly perfect EXCEPT a bug that makes it laggy half way through the day. Its a known bug spyder-ide/spyder#1831 and spyder-ide/spyder#1810 (Not just a matplotlib issue). Once this is repaired, I highly recommend this.

This is more an FYI than an issue
