Is there a solution for this yet or like other open source software, users are on their own to figure out the solution, which might not even there? |

I can't speak to the reasons (no inside information) but as far as Studio the readme is pretty clear: "Studio is designed to work with existing deployments - either the local hosted, docker setup, or our CLI. It is not intended for managing the deployment and administration of projects - that's out of scope. As such, the features exposed on Studio for existing deployments are limited to those which manage your database:....." And: Just wanted to tie this in with several other threads asking same thing, and not leave hanging open, at least for Studio. |

It also says, in the "Managing Project Settings" section: "Project settings are managed outside of the Dashboard. If you use docker-compose, you should manage the settings in your docker-compose file." Any idea what is that about? Does that mean projects can be created in the database and set up in the docker-compose file? Or is it just talking about secrets stuff? |

Not sure what you mean by projects can be created in the database... Projects are separate server instances. Each project runs on a server with its own database, PostgREST, gotrue, storage, etc. I assume settings is referring to secrets and all environment variables to provide to all the various components. |

I understood from the begining that each project is a separate instance of supabase, but, maybe i didn't make it clear enough, i'd like to find a way to connect several instances of supabase to be viewable from a single studio :) |

That is not possible currently with studio code in supabase/supabase github. Supabase has some extra shell in their dashboard that handles the projects and then uses the studio code once you are in the project. |

Am I the only one who is getting evil vibes from Supabase where they are trying to show that their project is really open but are locking you down to the point where you might as well use their service? |

I totally support this. If a product is advertised as FOSS, it should be completely open. If your product is not fully open, just includes a comparison table or a list of the features not included in the open version. I really gave up trying this project because of that. Am I going to notice another closed feature in the future? |

Well, to be fair: Supabase (to my knowledge) is FOSS - where do you see anything hidden? Yet, as @captainR0bbo pointed out this doesn't mean that they offer to the FOSS community the same services and ease as they do to paying customers, right? I think we as a community can easily change and re-write Supabase Studio and related services to make that work - that's FOSS in my eyes. BTW, I'm not affiliated with Supabase in any way and I would like just as much have the possibility to self-host multiple instances/projects with one Supabase instance (-> Studio). |

I'm trying to decide whether to go for Supabase or Appwrite, so far I liked Supabase more, but seeing these limitations - I think I'm going to head over to Appwrite. I haven't looked in-depth yet but when I tried to install Supabase locally, there wasn't even an option to log in. As soon as you open localhost:3000 you're on the dashboard. Maybe someday when this product grows more, at least on the self-hosted side (because the cloud seems to be good for me) then I'll try them again because I like RDBMS than NoSQL. |

Is there any official solution for this? If there is not, how about to have a command line interface to allow user to create mutliple projects (create a new db instance in pgsql, create new configuration for new project, etc), and just add an entry in UI dashobard to allow users switch to different projects. |

If you cannot create other projects, or add a default login panel, this is an incomplete non opensource restrictive software |

If you're on Kube, it is quite easy to just spin up another helm installation for Supabase. I recently come across the Bitnami distribution of Supbase, it works pretty well: https://github.com/bitnami/charts/tree/main/bitnami/supabase, and having multitenant support is just one ingress away. |

I just noticed this limitation on the part of supabase, what a shame I was interested in their native auth, but for the moment I will continue with Appwrite even if it does not have this feature, at least they do release their panel completely for self hosting |

Correct, pocketbase is very easy to install but if you already understand a little about docker, supabase and appwrite are similar in their installation. The bad thing about pocketbase is that it doesn't have many functionalities, it's still very green; Appwrite is the best competition before supabase, it is even more complete. But as I mentioned before, what interested me about supabase is the native auth, too bad. |

Honestly I understand them, why project management isn't part of the self-hosted instances. Likely it's not an easy thing, to add it the opensource part of Supabase, because it's very cloud specific. This part of Supabase is probably tailored to their SaaS offers. I imagine, that they spin up a Supabase instance per project in their clusters, like we do, when we use the self-hosted version, but they created a UI for that. As constructive criticism I want to leave here, that the communication with the community could be better about this. I table of features and a comparison between self-hosted and SaaS would be great! |

This is super hard to simply deploy all the features on a container with ui, look at https://pocketbase.io/ and make things simpler. Supabase is blazing fast and its super amazing project come on! |

I wish they change the mentality on 2024, and put things easier, cause from now on, this is not opensource, they don't want to add features they promised, they had already on commercial. |

How is it not open-source? Sure their commercial version has more features but this is 98% of the codebase right here. Anyway, what I've opted for doing now is just launch multiple instances on docker. Not ideal at all but a potential work around for you. |

I thought Supabase added login for selfhosted recently. https://supabase.com/docs/guides/self-hosting/docker#dashboard-authentication Also you comment about only one table not sure the context of that as you surly can have multiple postgres tables. I don't use self-hosting and am not an employee so can't answer on if they will ever consider multiple instances. My understanding is that is not easy based on the way the infrastructure is setup and 3rd party tools they use behind the scenes. But I don't want to speak for them on that. I do know I have been in discussions as a moderator/issuer resolver, that self-hosted issues should get attention, from the top layers of Supabase. |

Hello all!
Just started using Supabase last week and I was wondering if the following will be possible for self-hosted deployments THROUGH the Supabase Studio:
Atm the corresponding buttons for these actions do not appear when running a self-hosted deployment.
