Describe the bug

I have a German DTS-HD MA 5.1 track which I'd like to encode to EAC3, but DeeZy 0.1.8 won't work with it. Every time it finishes there is no EAC3 file.

Expected behaviour

Encode the German DTS-HD MA 5.1 track to EAC3 5.1 with DeeZy 0.1.8.

How to reproduce the issue

  • Import this German DTS-HD MA 5.1 track (https://mega.nz/file/jtEQ2J5L#naC0KHHf1Cyr3Xj3PgY5WPvipUhw60rsgPmbAZanbyE)
  • Choose the following settings inside Audio Settings:
    Codec: EAC3, Decoder: Any, I use ffmpeg, Encoder: deezy, Sample Rate: Original, Language: de, Bitrate: 640, Quality: n/a, Gain: 0.0, Delay: 0, Channels: Surround (5.1), Stereo Downmix: n/a, Dynamic Range Comp: Film Light
  • Execute
  • Check for non-existent EAC3 file once encoding is done

StaxRip version: 2.38.7
DeeZy version: 0.1.8

Additional context

When trying to encode this track with the video track as well, the encode failed and I got a log file telling me that "upmixing is not supported" or something to that effect. This is odd since the audio track is 5.1 and I selected "Surround (5.1)". Choosing "Original (Default)" allowed the encode to complete, but resulted in a 2.0 track instead.

This problem does not happen when using DeeZy 0.1.1 inside the forever reliable StaxRip 2.28 by the way. Copying 2.28's deezy.exe file over to 2.38.7 does not fix it.

I just tried encoding an English DTS-HD MA track and got the same error message; so it's nothing to do with the first track being German. Looks like DeeZy 0.1.8 has a problem with all DTS-HD MA 5.1 tracks, or just with encoding 5.1 in general regardless of audio codec. I can't say for sure though as I don't have any TrueHD 5.1 tracks at the moment.

DeeZy/ffmpeg always encode the source to FLAC before encoding to EAC3.

Sorry, I'm not able to reproduce it. No matter what I try, DeeZy is called correctly. I even searched and found a sample with dtshd audio track because I thought it could be releated to the fact, that a video source is opened, but also in that case everything worked great.

But I guess the problem is this:

Decoder: Any, I use ffmpeg

..because it does matter if it's set to ffmpeg or Automatic. Please set it to Automatic and try again as this will call DeeZy directly without intermediate files.

Switching from ffmpeg to Automatic worked perfectly. Thank you. Would you recommend using Automatic from now on? I've been using ffmpeg for ages and have never encountered any problems with it until now.

Something I've noticed when using Automatic - Once you start the encode, the DeeZy tab in the StaxRip window does not auto-scroll. This was fixed for when ffmpeg was being used. Any chance it could be fixed for Automatic as well please?

Automatic is often the direct way, so I would recommend it as long as you don't have a reason to use another decoder.

It's not an issue with ffmpeg, it's more a problem with the way StaxRip tries to convert the file to flac which cannot be read by DeeZy / DEE. Basically a pipe should be used, but I'm sure DeeZy cannot do that.

You mean that there is no progress while encoding?

Interesting. I've only noticed it happening with DeeZy 0.1.8, or StaxRip 2.38.7. Whichever came first/is the culprit.

The progress is shown for Step 1, but it doesn't auto-scroll downwards to show Step 2 or Step 3. It's nice to visually see that progress is actually being made.

This is during an audio encode, manually scrolled down to the start of Step 2 of 3. Notice how it isn't auto-scrolling during Step 2.

Please try v2.39.1, it changes the output a bit - the progress should now appear in the progress bar.

All seems good with 2.39.1. Encoding EAC3 5.1 works with both Automatic and ffmpeg now. Progress Highlighting looks good too. Thanks for the help.
