Who are we?

Plotly is the Montreal-based company behind the wildly-popular open-source Dash analytical app framework for Python, R and Julia and the open-source Plotly Graphing Libraries for Javascript, Python, R, Julia, and .NET. We are an open-core company, and our commercial product, based on Dash, is Dash Enterprise.

How does sponsorship work?

Beyond contributing to the success of our open-source project by using them, publicizing them, discussing them on our community forum, reporting bugs or working directly on the documentation or code, you can contribute financially to these projects via Github Sponsors.

Each of our repositories has certain issues marked ❤️ Needs Spon$or and these issues are prioritized on our product development roadmap according to how much funding they have accumulated from sponsors: the issues with the most accumulated sponsorship will be worked on next. We’ll update “Needs Spon$or” issue comments with which issue has the most funding and is currently being addressed, so the community knows where we are in the queue. We currently employ a small number of full-time developers who work to address the issues most needed by the community, in the order of their accumulated sponsorship amount, but otherwise do not benefit Dash Enterprise or have a business case for Plotly. Some of these issues have sat for years with no clear line of sight to funding, so we’re excited to institute this funding system to be able to hire additional developers for sponsor-prioritized issues as funding allows.

Once you become a sponsor, please indicate which issue you would like to direct your sponsorship towards in a comment on that issue, so that everyone in the community can see how much funding these issues are receiving. If you would prefer to do this anonymously, please email adam@plotly.com and we will add this note ourselves without identifying you.

Please note that sponsorships are non-refundable and that all contributions go towards funding developer time to work on sponsor-prioritized issues.

If you would like to skip the Github Sponsors mechanism and directly sponsor a whole feature with contractual guarantees on delivery times etc, please get in touch about direct sponsorship.

@plotly

Reaching this goal will enable us to hire a full-time developer to work on community-prioritized features!
